Lakeshore Renewal

A Baton Rouge family relocating to New Orleans to be closer to their children and grandchildren immediately saw the potential in this 1970s lakefront home. While the property offered the ideal setting for their multigenerational lifestyle, the house required extensive renovation and customization to truly become home.

The property provided everything the family was looking for: generous spaces for entertaining, multiple gathering areas, a pool for endless activity, an outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, and a large central kitchen designed for hosting. To bring the home in line with their vision, the entire interior was gutted and reimagined, removing outdated and incompatible design elements throughout. The renovation included new fireplaces, a completely redesigned kitchen, a new primary bathroom, and an updated outdoor kitchen. The pool, surrounding deck, and pool house were also fully renovated.

A significant portion of the project focused on resolving serious moisture and mold issues caused by a previous renovation. Working alongside a building envelope specialist, the HVAC system was redesigned to incorporate proper dehumidification, improperly installed spray foam insulation was removed and replaced, and humidity sensors were installed in the attic to monitor moisture levels year-round.

Exterior improvements included a full roof replacement, repainting of both the main house and pool house, and the replacement of numerous doors and windows.

Throughout the home, thoughtful finishes and layered materials create a warm yet elevated atmosphere. Luxury tile selections from Stafford Tile are paired with a mix of antique and contemporary lighting, including several fixtures by Julie Neill. Wallpapers from brands including Farrow & Ball and Palm Orleans add personality and texture throughout the interiors.

By day, the home is designed for gathering and activity; by evening, it effortlessly shifts into a place of retreat. The second floor gives the younger generation room to spread out and unwind, while the updated primary suite provides the homeowners with a peaceful, well-earned escape at the end of the day.
